It has become ridiculously hard to get pictures of Drew right now. Any time I pull out the camera, Drew wants to look at it and see pictures of himself (that little narcissist). He doesn't like to have his picture taken and gets completely distracted by the camera, so many a cute moment has been interrupted by me trying to get a picture of it. In this video, you get a small taste of the whiny tone Drew uses in trying to see his picture on the camera. This tone results in the camera getting put away!
I've got more videos of Drew, but they're still being processed, so I'll post them later (if I have time :)

FINALLY, another post
It has been so long since I've posted that I've almost forgotten how to do it! There is no great reason for my lack of posts, just general busyness. As much as I love looking through pictures of Drew and writing about him, if I have limited free time, I would prefer to spend it with Drew himself and with Jana! Drew has been eating A LOT lately and he continues to grow like crazy. How tall is he going to get?!!
In the picture below Drew was relaxing with me on the couch on a weekend afternoon. He likes to be around Jana and me and will play by himself (often with lots of narration of what's going on).
The biggest news since my last post is that Drew is officially in his big boy bed! Yay! This picture was taken the night we set it up and as you can see, his headboard hadn't arrived yet. However, we got the railings up, got his bed all ready, and I don't think Drew even noticed that his bed was missing a headboard.
Drew immediately asked to get on the bed to try it out. We've got him trained so that to get in or out of bed he asks for our permission and then we help him out. I don't think he realizes yet that he can do it on his own!
We crept into Drew's room his first night in the big boy bed and took a picture of him sleeping. We ALWAYS go in and check on Drew once a night, but now it's even better than before because he's so accessible. We make sure to lean in for a kiss on his cheek and a quiet "Goodnight Drew." Other than spending time with him awake, our nightly check-in of Drew sleeping is the highlight of our day!
We were nervous about Drew falling out of bed or getting out on his own. Actually, the transition to the big boy bed was probably harder for Jana and me than it was for Drew! We moved Drew's monitor to the living room so that we could hear every move he made in bed, and when he got up, Drew discovered it. He had great fun listening to the monitor while one of us went into his bedroom and talked into the receiver. I'm not sure why he hadn't caught on to this before, but it was a big hit.
Our little percussionist loves to play the drums (or play the couch or the footstool or the floor). He'll use whatever lies around, and in this case he grabbed a spoon. 
Grandma Lynn made up a drumming song for Drew, and he was having fun showing off for us with his drum. Drew definitely enjoys basking in Jana's and my attention!
Were we back in Drew's room again checking on him another night? Why yes, we were! Jana and I thought it was pretty cute how he had both his teddy bear and alligator in his arms. When sleeping on his side, Drew loves to pull something close to his chest to snuggle. By the way, our cute little 2-year-old is filling out a pair of 4T pajamas here. He's almost outgrown them!!!
Drew was a big supporter of MSU during the NCAA tournament, although he didn't even seem to notice when they got beaten badly by Memphis. We were in Grand Rapids the day before Easter (a day that MSU played) and we made sure that everyone knew who Drew wanted to win.
Drew was having a lot of fun at Grandma Sue and Grandpa Bill's house playing with this barn toy. As you might guess, he does a great job of entertaining himself!
Drew also got in a little golf. Drew loves watching golf on TV and will ask me, "See golf on TV? See Tiger Woods?" He also recently picked up the word "Ogilvy," which is his form of Geoff Ogilvy. As much as I love golf, I'm bummed that right now Drew prefers watching golf over basketball. All Drew gets to watch on TV are sports with me, so he probably thinks that the only thing a TV shows is sports!
Jana has now reached 37 weeks with Kate, and we are ready for her arrival any time! Drew arrived at 37 1/2 weeks, so if he was any indication it won't be long. Also, we just saw the doctor and Jana is dilated to 4 cm! (at 10 cm you deliver) Jana is at the stage where she is ready to get Kate out, so we're hoping that we'll get to see Kate soon. People are still amazed at how small Jana's belly is and she's had people at work that have just noticed that she's pregnant. They're quite surprised when they find out that the baby is due in 3 weeks!!
Drew likes playing with my hats, and here he grabbed my LSSU hat. Go Lakers!
We've been getting some gifts for baby Kate, and our friend Nora thought to include a gift for Drew. He was so excited to get to open his own present!
Jana and I have been having a blast lately with Drew. His language is exploding and he's so much fun to be around. Both of us look forward to when Drew gets up in the morning and to seeing him in the evening. Now we are looking forward to adding Kate to our family and getting to know her too! Keep posted for a birth notice for Kate because it is coming soon!

How is Kate doing?
I haven't posted in a while on how Jana's pregnancy is going, so I thought I'd let everyone know that things are continuing to go smoothly. Jana is the picture of health with great blood pressure and appropriate weight gain and Kate continues to grow and measure appropriately. Each week the doctor measures Jana's belly and it is growing as it should. Kate's heart rate is great and when the doctor pokes on Jana's belly Kate's heart rate goes up as she moves around.
Jana is starting to get more uncomfortable as Kate starts to run out of room and as a result Jana's sleeping less soundly at night. Last night, for the first time this pregnancy, Jana had a few contractions during the night. Jana had the same thing with Drew around this time. We are 34 weeks along. Anything over 36 weeks is considered full-term, so we're almost there! We'd really like to keep Kate in at least another 3 weeks for her to get big and strong before she's born.
In preparation for Kate's arrival we're switching Drew to a big boy bed so that Kate can have his crib. I'll keep you posted on how that goes! Also, we have all our bedding and decorations picked out for Kate's room. Her room has deep red walls and this is what the bedding will look like:
Starting at our next appointment, we get to see the doctor every week for the rest of the pregnancy, so we can tell we're in the home stretch. Jana and I can't believe that there will be four of us soon!

take a picture of me
Drew loves to have his picture taken and then to look at it on the screen. In this video, I was recording with the camera and Drew gets increasingly frustrated that I'm not turning the camera around to play back the video for him. Drew is obsessed with himself :) He likes to wander up when I'm working on a post for this blog and sit and gaze at the pictures of himself that I've got up on the computer screen. He's asking over and over and over in this video, "Can I see Drew boy? Where is Drew boy? Is Drew boy on the couch? Is Drew boy on the couch too? Where did Drew boy go? Is he on a picture? Can I see a picture of Drew? Can I see a picture of Drew too?" You can tell he's a toddler who likes to repeat things!
Drew likes to do a cold impression. He starts shaking his whole body and panting like he's really cold. I have no idea how he came up with it, but it never fails to amuse us. You'll notice the spoon shaking in his left hand because he is just that "cold."
Here is Drew's abbreviated version of "Jesus Loves Me." This was his evening bath time and he was singing away with parts of songs but never bothering to try all the lyrics. Drew does throw in a "For the Bible tells me" that is pretty clear and he concludes with "Yes, Jesus strong," which I guess is his version of "they are weak, but he is strong." I'm working on getting video of some of his other favorites like "Blessed be the name of the Lord," "The wheels on the bus," "Old McDonald," and the alphabet song. Drew's actually got a fair amount of the alphabet song down and he likes to sing it at night to put himself to sleep. Too cute!!

project
Drew has been busy the past week or two picking up new skills. Here he is showing off a skill he acquired a while ago . . . getting messy while eating. Drew loves tomato-based sauces, so pizza and marinara sauce with pasta are two of his favorite things. They aren't always the neatest things for him to eat.
Jana and I had some projects around the house (well, I guess they were my projects, but they benefited both of us) that required some help from Grandpa Bill. One Saturday he came to Lansing to help me, and Grandma Sue came along to play with Drew. Playing with Drew was a tough assignment, but Grandma Sue came through for us!
Drew was absolutely fascinated by what we were doing in the kitchen. Our first project was to install a new microwave above our stove. Drew kept on coming into the kitchen to see what we were doing. After some drilling, sawing, and grunting, my dad and I managed to get the new microwave installed. It works great and Drew gained a new appreciation for "microwaves" (he likes saying that word). Our second project was installing a new bathroom exhaust fan, but Drew didn't have much to do with that project. Drew is now fascinated by doing "projects" with me, so I turn some normal task into a "project" and we get out the toolbox or do something to make up a project.
Grandpa Bill helped Drew convert the microwave box into "Drew's house." He installed a window on the side with a piece of rope to help Drew close the window. The window provides an excellent opportunity for lengthy games of peek-a-boo.
Drew got a blanket to make his house a little more comfortable. The box was the perfect size for him to sit in and play (although he is a little tall for standing in it).
The window was also good for putting things in and out of the house. I guess Drew's visitors, like his bear, come in through the window.
Drew loves taking a bath and he also has been enjoying taking a shower with me. The water coming out of the shower head is fascinating to him! When he's in the bath I can't resist taking pictures of his smile because it is usually such a joyful time (until Drew has to get out).
Drew recently got a stepstool. He uses it to get up to the kitchen sink when he's helping with dishes, and he uses it when he brushes his teeth. He has gone up and down the steps MANY times since we got it, and it's one of his favorite things to do right now.
Here Drew is in action brushing his teeth with mom in the morning. The three of us all brush our teeth before putting on our shoes and coats to leave the house.
I have a couple of non-Drew related pictures from a 1980s party that Jana and I attended. Jana and I both did our best to re-create a look from the 80s. Here is Jana:
The most prominent feature of my costume was . . . a mustache. I've never had a mustache before (and I don't know if I ever will again), but for this party I shaved off the bottom of my goatee and left the mustache. Mmmmm. Looking good! (not really) The mustache is already gone and I'm back to a goatee again.
Some excited news for Uncle Todd is that he's been hired as a Battle Creek Fire Fighter! Yay Todd!!! We saw Uncle Todd last weekend to celebrate his birthday and he showed Drew his new helmet. Drew could hardly hold up his head while wearing it. It's heavy!
Todd put on his full turnouts and helmet to show Drew (Drew thought that with the helmet it was scary). Now Drew keeps saying "Uncle Todd is a firefighter." We are all very proud that Uncle Todd got into a fire department.
Where is Uncle Todd when you need him to put out a fire? Just kidding, this picture is from the Japanese steakhouse where we went to celebrate Todd's birthday and Kelli's birthday. The chef makes some pretty good-sized flames a couple points in the meal preparation. Drew's eyes were huge!
Drew was glued to what the chef was doing (they toss knives around and bang on the cooking surface and basically do quite the presentation), but he wasn't quite comfortable with it either. I don't think he knew what to make of it. 
Drew has been showing off for the videos lately, so keep an eye out for some more videos coming soon.
